Notes on the West Indies by George Pinckard
These three volumes contain letters written by Dr. George Pinckard, describing his service as an Army Doctor during an expedition to the Caribbean during the French Revolutionary Wars in the 1790s, commanded by General Sir Ralph Abercromby. In it he recounts to a friend his voyage from Britain, his time in the West Indies and the British occupation of the Dutch colonies of South America. His letters provide an interesting perspective into both a soldier’s life, and death, in the West Indies, and the nature of Caribbean society at the time. The letters were published in 1806.
